How to cook the perfect steak
There is nothing better than steak, other than a perfect steak! Learn how to perfect your BBQ steak in this how to guide.

- Beef Steak - scotch, sirloin, rump, eye fillet or porterhouse
- Olive oil
- Salt + pepper
Method
- Bring your steak to room temperature.
- Preheat your BBQ to medium-high heat.
- Pat the beef steak dry with a paper towel. Drizzle with olive oil and season generously with salt and pepper. You could also add a premade rub of your choice.
- BBQ the steaks until cooked to your desired level.
For rare: cook for 2 minutes on each side or until browned all over and very soft to the touch. The internal temperature should be between 49°C to 55°C.
For medium rare: cook for 3-4 minutes on each side or until tender, springy and soft. The internal temperature should be between 55°C to 60°C.
For medium: cook for 4-5 minutes on each side or until tender and springy with some resistance. The internal temperature should be between 60°C to 65°C.
For medium-well: Cook for 5 - 5 ½ minutes on each side or until firm. The internal temperature should be between 68°C to 74°C.
For well done: cook for 5-6 minutes on each side or until very firm. The internal temperature should be 77°C.
- Transfer the steak to a plate, cover loosely with foil and set aside to rest for 5 minutes.
- Serve or slice the rested steaks against the grain.
Top tip: It’ll take at least 30 minutes for your steak to come up to room temperature.
Purchase a premade rub instore and rub it into your steaks after seasoning with salt and pepper for a flavourful steak.
