Christmas Club Terms and Conditions
These terms and conditions are effective on and from 1 May 2023.
- The following terms and conditions govern the membership of a customer (you, your, yours) for the New World North Island Christmas Club programme (NI Christmas Club), so please read them carefully. The NI Christmas Club allows you to make payments to a NI Christmas Club account (Account) that can be used to purchase goods from New World stores nationwide. By becoming a member of the NI Christmas Club, you are deemed to have read and agreed to these terms and conditions. If you do not agree to these terms and conditions, you should not join the NI Christmas Club.
- The NI Christmas Club is managed by Foodstuffs Christmas Club Limited (FCCL, we, our, or us). FCCL is a related company of the Foodstuffs group, comprising Foodstuffs North Island Limited, Foodstuffs South Island Limited, Foodstuffs (N.Z.) Limited, any affiliate, subsidiary or related company of those Foodstuffs entities and any Foodstuffs member franchisee store (together, Foodstuffs).
- The NI Christmas Club is intended for customers located in the North Island.
Membership and Activation
- You can become a member of the NI Christmas Club at any time by firstly obtaining a NI Christmas Club card (XC Card) instore at any New World store in the North Island and then completing the XC card application and activation process online at www.newworldchristmas.co.nz. Completing the application and activation process requires providing all requested information (including a validated email address), depositing at least NZ$5 into your Christmas Club account (Account) and choosing a security PIN to use with your card and your online Account.
- You are allowed to hold only one XC Card at any given time. By becoming a member of the NI Christmas Club, you agree to be bound by this condition and confirm that you will hold only one XC Card at any given time. It is your responsibility to ensure that you comply with this condition.
- You must register/activate your XC Card online in accordance with the instructions above in order to:
1- Top up your Account online via automatic payment or online payment;
2- Use your card instore;
3- Change your security PIN online;
4- Have added security if your XC Card is lost or stolen;
5- Access and view your transaction history online; and
6- Receive invitations to NI Christmas Club instore activities and promotions.
- You agree that you are solely responsible for any access to your online Account. You agree that all information you make available to us when applying or activating is true, accurate, up to date, complete and not false, misleading or deceptive in any material way. You are responsible for ensuring that your membership details are up to date and accurate at all times either via your online Account or by contacting the Customer Support Centre on 0800 639 967.
Top Ups and account balance

You can add funds to your Account balance in the following ways:
1- Instore at any New World store nationwide, by topping up your XC Card at the check-out.
2- Online by setting up an automatic payment or by making an internet banking transfer.
Top ups made to your Account by automatic payment or online banking are generally added to your Account balance by the next business day but can take up to five working days. You must include your XC Card number as a reference for any online payments. Online payments are your responsibility, we are not liable for payments made to the wrong Account.
- The minimum amount you can add to your Account balance in one transaction is $5. The maximum possible balance of your Account at any one time is $4,000, together with any bonus applied (up to a maximum of $4,999). Any payment made to your XC Card that will result in the maximum balance being exceeded will not be accepted into your Account. For payments made in store, if you exceed the maximum Account balance you will receive an error message instore. For payments made by automatic payment or internet banking transfer which result in the maximum Account balance being exceeded, the whole payment will be credited back to your bank account.
- The maximum amount you can load (including any reload amount) to your XC Card Account in any consecutive 12-month period (commencing from the date of issuance) (Annual Maximum) is a maximum amount of $9,000 together with any bonus applied (up to a maximum of $9,999). For top ups made instore, if you exceed the Annual Maximum, you will receive an error message instore. Any top ups made by automatic payment or internet banking transfer that will result in the Annual Maximum being exceeded, will be credited back to your bank account.
- Once funds are added to your XC Card Account, they are non-refundable (except in the event of closure, initiated by Foodstuffs).
- You can check your Account balance instore, either by swiping or scanning your XC Card at the checkout with the balance printed on your receipt, via your online Account, or by contacting the Customer Support Centre on 0800 639 967.
Bonus
- The NI Christmas Club year commences at 00:01 on 1 December of each year and concludes at 23:59 on 30 November of the following year (Bonus Earning Period).
- By being a member of the NI Christmas Club, you are eligible for a bonus which will increase the value of any funds you add to your Account balance.
- The bonus eligibility is as follows:

- On 1 December each year, we will credit and make available to your Account balance the applicable bonus earned in the immediately preceding Bonus Earning Period. For example, for any amounts deposited into your Account balance between 1 December that year and 30 November the following year, the applicable bonus (calculated in accordance with the rates in the above table) will be credited and made available to your Account balance on 1 December the following year, redeemable any time after that. The bonus will be calculated as a proportionate percentage of the deposited amount, calculated in accordance with the rates in the above table.
- Any existing Account balances carried over from previous Bonus Earning Periods (i.e. periods prior to the immediately preceding Bonus Earning Period), will not be eligible for further bonuses.
- The bonus rates are subject to change at our discretion at any time without notice. Please email [email protected] for the current rates.
Redemption
- Your Account balance can be used to purchase goods instore at New World nationwide by using your XC Card. Your Account balance cannot be used to purchase goods through New World online shopping or click and collect.
- You can redeem all or any amount of your Account balance at any time during the year. However, any amounts deposited and redeemed during the same Bonus Earning Period will not be eligible for a bonus.
- Any amounts added to your Account balance or bonuses credited to your Account balance will be redeemed and will reduce your Account balance or bonuses in the same order in which such amounts or bonuses were added to your Account balance (i.e. on a “first in, first out basis”).
- Any amounts in your Account balance that you do not redeem in a Bonus Earning Period will be carried over to the next Bonus Earning Period. Any amounts carried over will not be eligible for further bonuses.
- Other than as permitted upon closure of your Account under these terms and conditions, your Account balance cannot be refunded or exchanged for cash.
Security
- If you lose your XC Card this should be reported immediately via calling the Customer Support Centre on 0800 639 967 or emailing [email protected]
- Once we receive your notification that your XC Card has been lost or stolen, we will place the Account on hold and any future activity will be blocked until further instructions from you. Any funds used before the Account is put on hold will be your responsibility.
- If you instruct us to issue you a replacement card, a replacement card will be mailed to you. The first replacement card is free. Any further replacement cards may incur an administrative charge.
- Your XC Card is very valuable, and you must keep it secure at all times. You agree that you are solely responsible for any use of your XC Card and the security of your PIN. We will not reimburse you for any unauthorised use or loss of your XC Card suffered up to the point of us receiving a notification from you in accordance with the first bullet point under the heading “Security” of these terms and conditions above.
- If we suspect that your Account or XC Card (including the funds loaded onto your Account or XC Card) has been subject to or involved in fraudulent activity, we may immediately suspend, without notice to you, your Account and/or XC Card until we are satisfied that there has been no fraudulent activity or until any fraudulent activity has been lawfully resolved. We will not be liable to you or any other person, whether in contract, tort or otherwise, for any loss, damage or injury arising directly or indirectly from any suspension of your Account or XC Card by us.
- To the maximum extent permitted by law, FCCL and Foodstuffs will not be liable, whether in contract, tort or otherwise, for any loss, damage or injury arising directly or indirectly from any use of your XC Card by yourself or any third party, your membership of the NI Christmas Club, or any third party gaining unauthorised access to your Account or personal information.
Inactive Account
- Your Account will be deemed inactive if you do not top up or redeem your Account balance for a period exceeding 24 months.
- We will send you a reminder letter which will be emailed to the email address registered for your Account at least 4 weeks prior to your Account being deactivated if your Account balance exceeds $20.
- If your Account is deemed to be inactive, the related XC Card(s) will expire, and the Account balance will become the property of FCCL. Inactive Accounts cannot be reactivated.
Collection of Personal Information and Your Privacy
- We may need to obtain personal information from you as part of your membership of the NI Christmas Club. Personal information is any information about you that identifies you, or by which your identity can reasonably be ascertained and includes visibility of deposits and Account balances for the purposes of administering the NI Christmas Club.
- Our New World Privacy Policy, sets out how we and Foodstuffs can collect, hold and use your personal information. This Privacy Policy forms part of these terms and conditions.
General Terms
- We can change these terms and conditions at any time without notice to you. Changes will be made by posting them on the website www.newworldchristmas.co.nz and it is your responsibility to check the website for changes. The revised terms will take effect when they are posted, and your continued membership of the NI Christmas Club means you agree to our revised terms.
- If you do not agree to the revised terms, you can cancel your membership by contacting the Customer Support Centre on 0800 639 967. Your Account balance will not be refunded or exchanged for cash but can be redeemed in store prior to such cancellation.
- The NI Christmas Club may be suspended or cancelled at any time at our sole discretion. We will endeavour to give advance notice of any such suspension or cancellation by posting it on the website www.newworldchristmas.co.nz or otherwise by notifying you via the email address provided as part of your application process.
- In the event the NI Christmas Club is suspended or cancelled, all Account balances are non-refundable and non-transferable, but may be redeemed within 12 months of such suspension or cancellation. No bonus will apply or be credited to your Account balance during this 12-month period. Any amount not redeemed will become the property of FCCL.
- If you breach any of these terms and conditions, we may cancel your membership of the NI Christmas Club. If we cancel your membership, we will refund your Account balance to you by direct bank transfer to your nominated bank account as advised at the time of cancellation and you will have no further entitlements.
- The NI Christmas Club is governed by New Zealand law. If we have any issues which need to be resolved by a court, you agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
New World Lower North Island Christmas Club - Notice - This notice is effective on and from 25 September 2023.
- New World Christmas Club was a club for members in the Lower North Island offered by Foodstuffs North Island Limited (“Foodstuffs”) (the “New World LNI Christmas Club”). Any previous terms and conditions of the New World LNI Christmas Club are terminated by this notice.
- As notified on 25 September via newworldchristmas.co.nz, in accordance with the previous New World LNI Christmas Club terms and conditions, the New World LNI Christmas Club has closed for applications from new members and is no longer accepting contributions from members. If you live in the North Island and would like to join the refreshed New World Christmas Club, please follow this link (“Current New World NI Christmas Club”).
- If you are an existing member of New World LNI Christmas Club (“Existing LNI Member”) and do not wish to join the refreshed New World Christmas Club, please call 0800 639 967 who will help you exit the New World LNI Christmas Club. Your account balance will not be refunded or exchanged for cash but can be redeemed in store.
- Our New World Privacy Policy, sets out how Foodstuffs can collect, hold and use your personal information. This Privacy Policy applies to Existing LNI Members.
- Foodstuffs reserves the right to amend this notice, and the terms that apply to Existing LNI Members, at any time and without notice. Any amendments to this notice will be posted on newworldchristmas.co.nz.
